Birthday Party!

Lolly had her fourth Birthday Party on Sunday, which was a rousing success!  There was a green dinosaur cake.
Roar!
DinnerDad puts on the finishing touches.

Birthday cake proves to be a pied piper for the small ones.
ZOMG, cake!!!!

My piece!

Festive cat is festive.
There was face painting, thanks to a lovely friend (she is available for parties if you're interested!).
DinnerDad's dino watermelon!

There were lots of family and friends, lovely gifts, and a happy, tired, birthday girl at the end of the day.  Thanks to everyone for making it a lovely, special day for all of us.  xo

Pop has a party

It was my Dad's birthday in July, and we caught up on Sunday to celebrate!

Pop!

Both Lolly and Snail are, to put it mildly, HUGE fans of my parents... HUGE!

Party time
Presents!

Snail uses a balloon for a pillow.  This does not always end well...
DinnerDad made an awesome Japanese feast.

I made a cake.  A ginger and spice cake, with cream cheese icing. It's probably important at this point to know something key about me: I'm not a cook.  I was actually of the School of Burning Toast in my earlier years.  Eventually I had to suck it up and learn to cook some things, especially since the kids, but lately I've got more into actually enjoying it.  Or at least, not wanting to poke my own eye out as I do it.

Now, apparently, I'm a recipe adapter, and someone who thinks "oh, I've got that leftover buttermilk (note it was LEFTOVER, I'm clearly made of the awesome cooking stuff with buttermilk) that I'll sub in for yoghurt there, great."  Buttermilk!

I also have my own way of making cream cheese icing.  My own way!

Let me repeat for emphasis: My own way!!  Buttermilk!!
If I sound chuffed with myself, it's just showing how NOT a cook I was.  I'll be on Masterchef next...

Oh, and happy birthday, Pop!!

Catching Up: Birthday Parties and Dora Cakes

I may have mentioned, somewhere on this blog of mine, that DinnerDad, true to his name, can cook (here is his long neglected blog on the topic).  Apparently, he can also make cakes!  Lolly requested a Dora cake for her party, and dispite my goddam Martha Stewart efforts on her actual birthday, it was thought that perhaps more effort may be required for an actual gathering.  Ahem.

Under Construction

I can't resist the shot, the genius at work, complete with glasses, and awesome superior over-the-glasses look!

Dora!
He even built a fridge on the bench to keep it cool as it was too big for our fridge.

Dora's sarcophagus.

Beautiful 3 year old, seeking a bit of privacy to eat her yummy cake!

Party time!  Don't they look just so happy!

Seizure time :(

Though we had to LOL when at one stage she stirred, grabbed the skittle set Lolly got for a present, then conked again with it clutched in her hand.  Now, there's a girl with priorities!

Other than Snail having a seizure and sleeping through it all, Lolly had a wonderful day, we were blessed with some gorgeous gifts, and great company, though we missed my family, who were far away :(
